Silicon Metal is a crucial industrial product, integral to the production of steel, cast iron, and aluminum components (aviation, aircraft, and automotive parts), as well as silicon optoelectronic devices. Revered as the 'salt' of modern industries, this metal is produced from quartz and coke in electric furnaces. Boasting a silicon content of about 98%, the remaining impurities include iron, aluminum, and calcium, enhancing its versatility and functionality across various sectors.
The production of Silicon Metal lumps begins in electric furnaces where quartz and coke undergo a redox reaction, transforming into molten silicon liquid. Upon cooling, this molten substance solidifies into large primal lumps.
These large primal lumps are then processed into smaller, standardized sizes, ranging from 10-100mm, to meet specific industrial requirements.
Silicon Metal is characterized by a striking silver-gray or dark gray hue with a metallic luster. It boasts a high melting point, excellent heat resistance, high resistivity, and superior oxidation resistance, making it ideal for demanding industrial applications.
1) Silicon Metal is extensively used in refractory materials and the power metallurgy industry, significantly enhancing heat resistance, wear resistance, and oxidation resistance.
2) In the chemical industry, industrial silicon powder serves as a fundamental raw material for synthesizing high polymers of organic silicon.
3) Industrial silicon powder is refined into monocrystalline silicon, a vital raw material in high-tech industries for manufacturing integrated circuits and electronic components.
4) Within metallurgy and foundry sectors, industrial silicon powder acts as an alloying agent for iron-based alloys, particularly silicon steel, improving the hardenability and performance of steel products.
5) Silicon metal is indispensable in producing high-temperature resistant materials, ensuring durability and efficiency in extreme conditions.
