Silicon Metal is an indispensable powerhouse in the industrial world, serving as a foundational component in various sectors such as steel-making, cast iron, and aluminum industries, particularly in the production of aviation, aircraft, and automobile parts. Moreover, its role in the creation of silicon optoelectronic devices, among other industries, has earned it the poetic moniker of the 'salt' of modern industries. This versatile material is crafted from quartz and coke through smelting in an electric heating furnace. The resultant Silicon Metal boasts a remarkable purity, with a silicon content of approximately 98%. The remaining composition consists of trace impurities such as iron, aluminum, and calcium.
Silicon Metal lump emerges from the transformative process within an electric heating furnace, where quartz and coke combine in a redox reaction that produces molten silicon liquid. As this liquid cools, it solidifies into the substantial primal silicon metal lumps that are initially quite large.
These large primal lumps are then meticulously processed into smaller, standardized lumps, ranging in size from 10-100mm, designed for optimal application and convenience.
The Silicon Metal Lumps are distinguished by their striking silver-gray or dark gray hue and metallic luster. They are revered for their exceptional properties, including a high melting point, impressive heat resistance, superior high resistivity, and outstanding oxidation resistance, making them indispensable in a variety of demanding applications.
1) Silicon Metal finds extensive application in the refractory materials and powder metallurgy industries, significantly enhancing their heat resistance, wear resistance, and oxidation resistance.
2) In the domain of organic silicon chemistry, industrial silicon powder serves as a fundamental raw material for the synthesis of high polymers of organic silicon, playing a pivotal role in their formation.
3) This versatile industrial silicon powder is transformed into monocrystalline silicon, a vital material in the high-tech sector, indispensable for the manufacturing of integrated circuits and electronic components.
4) Within the realms of metallurgy and foundry, industrial silicon powder is esteemed as a crucial iron base alloy additive and a pharmaceutical agent for silicon steel, thereby enhancing the hardenability of steel.
5) Silicon metal is essential in producing materials that can withstand exceptionally high temperatures, making it invaluable in high-temperature material production.
