Silicon Metal is an indispensable industrial product pivotal in various sectors such as steel-making, cast iron, and aluminum industries, which are crucial for aviation, aircraft, and automobile parts production. Additionally, it finds applications in silicon optoelectronic devices and a myriad of other industries, earning its title as the 'salt' of modern industries. Created from quartz and coke through smelting in electric heating furnaces, this metal boasts a silicon content of approximately 98%, with iron, aluminum, and calcium comprising the remaining impurities.
Silicon Metal lumps are produced by smelting quartz and coke in an electric heating furnace, resulting in a redox reaction that transforms the quartz into molten silicon liquid. Upon cooling, the molten silicon solidifies into large primal silicon metal lumps.
These large silicon metal lumps are subsequently broken down into smaller, standard-sized lumps ranging from 10-100mm.
Characterized by its silver-gray or dark gray hue and metallic luster, Silicon Metal boasts a high melting point, excellent heat resistance, high resistivity, and superior oxidation resistance.
1) Silicon Metal is extensively utilized in refractory materials and powder metallurgy industries to enhance heat resistance, wear resistance, and oxidation resistance.
2) In the chemical sector, industrial silicon powder serves as a fundamental raw material for the synthesis of high polymers of organic silicon compounds.
3) Industrial silicon powder is sublimated to produce monocrystalline silicon, which is a crucial raw material in high-tech fields for manufacturing integrated circuits and electronic components.
4) In the metallurgy and foundry sectors, industrial silicon powder is valued as an iron-based alloy additive and a silicon steel alloying agent, thereby enhancing the hardenability of steel.
5) Silicon Metal is also used in the production of high-temperature-resistant materials.
