Silicon manganese alloy, a robust fusion of manganese, silicon, iron, along with traces of carbon and other essential elements, stands as a formidable iron alloy, widely utilized and highly produced. Ranking second in consumption among ferroalloy products from electric furnaces, this alloy is prized for its exceptional deoxidation capabilities. The formidable affinity of manganese and silicon with oxygen in this alloy results in melting points of deoxidation byproducts, mnsio3 and mn2sio4, at 1270 ºC and 1327 ºC respectively. Its low melting point, substantial particle size, and superior flotation contribute to a remarkable deoxidation effect. Notably, when used separately, the burning loss rates of manganese or silicon are 46% and 37%, whereas manganese silicon alloy achieves an impressive reduction to 29%. This alloy is meticulously produced through the simultaneous reduction of manganese ore (including manganese-rich slag), manganese oxide, and silicon dioxide with carbon in a submerged arc furnace.
