Silicon manganese alloy, a remarkable fusion of manganese, silicon, iron, and trace amounts of carbon plus other elements, stands as a versatile iron alloy with widespread applications and substantial output. This alloy ranks second among the ferroalloy products derived from electric furnaces. With manganese and silicon exhibiting a potent affinity for oxygen, the alloy excels in steelmaking. The deoxidation products, MnSiO3 and Mn2SiO4, have melting points of 1270 ºC and 1327 ºC, respectively. This alloy boasts a low melting point, sizable particles, ease of buoyancy, and superior deoxidation capability. Comparatively, the burning loss rates for manganese or silicon alone stand at 46% and 37%, while manganese silicon alloy deoxidizes at a reduced rate of 29%. The production process involves the reduction of manganese ore (including manganese-rich slag) and manganese oxide, along with silica's silicon dioxide, using carbon in a submerged arc furnace.
