Ferrovanadium (ferrovanadium alloy) is an essential ferro alloy prominently utilized in the steel industry. Comprising primarily vanadium and iron, it may also contain trace impurities such as sulfur, phosphorus, silicon, and aluminum. FeV is produced through the carbon reduction of vanadium pentoxide in an electric furnace or via the aluminothermic reduction method. This versatile alloy is extensively employed as an alloying element in the production of vanadium-containing alloy steel and cast iron, as well as in the creation of permanent magnets.
The vanadium content in ferrovanadium can be tailored to meet specific alloy formulations and manufacturing standards, typically ranging between 30% and 80%, with the remainder being iron. Ferrovanadium is available in three primary grades based on vanadium content: FeV40, FeV60, and FeV80, each serving as a vital additive in the smelting of alloy steel and low-alloy steel. Additionally, vanadium aluminum alloys are integral in titanium alloy production, where they are commonly referred to as 'VQ' VAl.
