Distinguished by their carbon content, ferromanganese is classified into three primary categories:

Low-carbon category: Not exceeding a carbon content of 0.7%;
Medium carbon category: Exhibiting a carbon content ranging from greater than 0.7% to 2.0%;
High-carbon category: Featuring a carbon content within the range of more than 2.0% up to 8.0%.
