Based on the smelting technique employed, ferromanganese is categorized into electric furnace ferromanganese and blast furnace ferromanganese, each with unique properties and uses.
Ferromanganese is classified according to its carbon content into three distinct categories:

Low-carbon category: characterized by a carbon content not exceeding 0.7%;
Medium carbon category: features carbon content ranging from greater than 0.7% up to 2.0%;
High-carbon category: marked by a carbon content exceeding 2.0% and reaching up to 8.0%.
