For instance, when silicon carbide powder is expertly applied to the impeller or cylinder of a water turbine, it significantly enhances wear resistance, extending the lifespan by an impressive 1 to 2 times. Refractory materials crafted from silicon carbide exhibit exceptional heat shock resistance, compact size, lightweight structure, high strength, and excellent energy-saving properties. Low-grade silicon carbide, containing about 85% SiC, excels as an outstanding deoxidizer, accelerating steelmaking, refining chemical composition control, and elevating steel quality. Furthermore, silicon carbide is extensively utilized to manufacture silicon carbide rods for electric heating applications.
