Ferrovanadium, a critical ferroalloy, plays a crucial role in the steel industry. This potent mix of vanadium and iron includes minor impurities such as sulfur, phosphorus, silicon, and aluminum. It is expertly crafted through either carbon reduction of vanadium pentoxide in an electric furnace or aluminothermic reduction. This extraordinary alloy is essential as an additive in the smelting of vanadium-rich alloy steel and alloy cast iron, and also in the creation of permanent magnets.
The vanadium content in ferrovanadium is meticulously adjusted to align with specific alloy formulations and manufacturing demands. Typically, it ranges from 30% to 80%, balanced by iron. FeV alloys are classified into three distinct types according to vanadium content: FeV40, FeV60, and FeV80. These are essential in the smelting of alloy and low-alloy steel. Additionally, vanadium aluminum alloys are crucial to titanium alloy production, commonly known as 'VQ' VAl.
