Based on varied smelting techniques, ferromanganese is classified into two prime categories: electric furnace ferromanganese and blast furnace ferromanganese.
Ferromanganese is further categorized based on its carbon content into three distinct classifications:

Low-carbon category: features a carbon content not exceeding 0.7%;
Medium carbon category: characterized by a carbon content ranging from greater than 0.7% up to 2.0%;
High-carbon category: distinguished by a carbon content ranging from more than 2.0% to 8.0%.
