Silicon Metal is an essential and versatile industrial product, playing a pivotal role across a multitude of sectors, including steel-making, cast iron, and aluminum industries, notably in the production of aviation, aircraft, and automobile parts. It also finds applications in silicon optoelectronic devices, earning its reputation as the 'salt' of modern industry. Derived from quartz and coke through electric furnace smelting, silicon metal boasts a primary silicon content of approximately 98%, with minor impurities such as iron, aluminum, and calcium.
Silicon Metal, starting as a large primal lump, is initially produced in an electric heating furnace using quartz and coke. In this process, quartz undergoes redox reactions, transforming into molten silicon liquid. Upon cooling, this liquid solidifies into the silicon metal lump familiar to us.
These large primal silicon metal lumps are subsequently refined and broken down into smaller, more practical pieces referred to as standard size. The standard size for Silicon Metal Lumps ranges from 10-100mm.
The Silicon Metal exhibits a distinctive silver-gray or dark gray appearance, graced with a metallic luster. It is celebrated for its high melting point, exceptional heat resistance, elevated resistivity, and outstanding oxidation resistance, making it an ideal choice for advanced refractory applications.
1) Silicon Metal is a cornerstone in the refractory material and power metallurgy industry. Its exceptional ability to enhance heat resistance, boost wear resistance, and improve oxidation resistance makes it indispensable.
2) In the realm of organic silicon chemistry, industrial silicon powder serves as the fundamental raw material for creating high polymers, paving the way for advanced organic silicon formulations.
3) Industrial silicon powder undergoes a transformation into monocrystalline silicon, serving as a critical component in the high-tech sector. It is a key ingredient in the production of integrated circuits and essential electronic elements.
4) Within metallurgy and foundry operations, industrial silicon powder is esteemed as an iron base alloy additive and a pivotal ingredient in silicon steel alloy formulations, enhancing the hardenability of steel.
5) Silicon metal is a vital element in the production of high-temperature materials, ensuring performance and stability under extreme conditions.
