Ferro-Chrome with a chromium content below 56%, known as 'charge chrome,' is derived from ores with lower chromium levels. In contrast, High Carbon Ferro-Chrome, sourced from higher-grade ores, finds its niche in specialty applications such as engineering steels where a high Cr to Fe ratio and minimal impurities like sulfur, phosphorus, and titanium are crucial.
Low-carbon Ferro-Chrome is pivotal in steelmaking to fine-tune chromium levels without instigating unwanted shifts in carbon or trace elements. It serves as a cost-effective substitute for metallic chrome in super alloys and other specialized melting processes.
