High Strength Femn65si17 Silicon Manganese Alloy for Steelmaking Applications
Silicon manganese alloy is an alloy composed of manganese, silicon, iron, and trace amounts of carbon and other elements. As a vital iron alloy, it sees extensive applications and substantial production volumes. Its utility ranks second among electric furnace ferroalloy products. Manganese and silicon in this alloy exhibit a pronounced affinity for oxygen. When employed in steelmaking, the deoxidation products, Manganese Silicate (MNSiO3) and Manganese Disilicate (MN2SiO4), boast melting points of 1270 ºC and 1327 ºC, respectively. This alloy offers advantages such as a lower melting point, larger particles that float easily, and superior deoxidation effectiveness. Under identical conditions, standalone manganese or silicon deoxidation shows burn-off rates of 46% and 37%, respectively, while manganese silicon alloy deoxidation achieves a reduced rate of 29%. This marvel is produced through the simultaneous reduction of manganese ore (including manganese-rich slag), manganese oxide, and silica in submerged arc furnaces using carbon.
