Low and medium carbon ferromanganese are pivotal in the production of special steels. These alloys are indispensable raw materials in steelmaking and are also essential for welding electrodes. High carbon ferromanganese serves as an effective deoxidizing agent or an alloy additive in steel manufacturing.

Depending on the smelting method, ferromanganese is classified into electric furnace ferromanganese and blast furnace ferromanganese.
Based on carbon content, ferromanganese is categorized into three distinct types:

Low-Carbon Category: Carbon content is a maximum of 0.7%;
Medium-Carbon Category: Carbon content ranges from greater than 0.7% to 2.0%;
High-Carbon Category: Carbon content ranges from greater than 2.0% to 8.0%.
