Low and medium carbon ferromanganese are indispensable in the creation of special steel, serving as crucial raw materials in the steelmaking process. On the other hand, high-carbon ferromanganese finds its primary application as a proficient deoxidizing agent or as an alloy element enhancer in the steel-making industry.

The production of ferromanganese is categorized based on the smelting methods employed, resulting in two distinct types: electric furnace ferromanganese and blast furnace ferromanganese.
Ferromanganese can be classified into three distinctive categories, based on its carbon content:

Low-carbon category: characterized by a carbon content that does not exceed 0.7%;
Medium-carbon category: defined by a carbon content ranging from greater than 0.7% up to 2.0%;
High-carbon category: marked by a carbon content ranging from greater than 2.0% up to 8.0%.
