Silicon manganese alloy, a highly versatile and widely-produced alloy, consists of manganese, silicon, iron, along with trace amounts of carbon and other elements. Ranking second in the electric furnace ferroalloy products, its application scope is remarkably broad. The alloy's components-the manganese and silicon-exhibit a potent affinity for oxygen, which makes it an exceptional deoxidizer in steelmaking. The deoxidation products-Mnsio3 and Mn2sio4-have melting points of 1270 ºC and 1327 ºC respectively, providing the alloy with a compelling advantage of low melting point, large particle size, easy flotation, and efficient deoxidation. While the separate deoxidation by manganese or silicon has a burn-loss rate of 46% and 37%, respectively, the combined manganese silicon alloy achieves a substantially reduced rate of 29%. The production process involves the simultaneous reduction of manganese ore, including manganese-rich slag, manganese oxide, and silicon dioxide, using carbon in a submerged arc furnace, assuring top-quality alloy output.
