Ferrosilicon is a remarkable ferro alloy constituted by iron and silicon, crafted meticulously from a fusion of coke, steel scraps, and quartz or silica, inside an electric furnace. Known for its ability to synthesize quickly with oxygen to form silicon dioxide, Ferrosilicon stands as a premier deoxidizer in steelmaking. Its unique property of generating significant heat during the formation of SiO2 aids in elevating the temperature of molten steel while executing deoxidation. Additionally, Ferrosilicon enhances steel properties as an alloying element, making it indispensable in producing low-alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel, and electrical silicon steel. It is also a key reducing agent, widely utilized in ferroalloy production and various chemical industries.
