This versatile iron alloy stands out for its widespread applicability and substantial production volume, ranking second in electric furnace ferroalloy products. With the inherent strong affinity of manganese and silicon for oxygen, this alloy proves invaluable in steelmaking. The deoxidation products MnSiO3 and Mn2SiO4, boast melting points of 1270ºC and 1327ºC, respectively, highlighting its advantages of low melting point, large particle formation, ease of flotation, and superior deoxidation. When utilized under optimal conditions, the combustion loss rates for isolated manganese or silicon deoxidation are 46% and 37%, respectively, while for Silicon Manganese Alloy it reduces to an impressive 29%. The production involves reducing manganese ore, including manganese-rich slag, manganese oxide, and silicon dioxide using carbon in submerged arc furnaces.
