Silicon manganese alloy is a meticulously engineered alloy consisting of manganese, silicon, iron, and trace amounts of carbon and other elements. As a widely utilized iron alloy, it ranks second in consumption among electric furnace ferroalloy products. The manganese and silicon within this alloy demonstrate a robust affinity for oxygen, making it an ideal choice for deoxidizing in steelmaking. With deoxidation product melting points of 1270 ºC for MnSiO3 and 1327 ºC for Mn2SiO4, the alloy boasts attributes of a low melting point, substantial particle size, easy floatation, and an impressive deoxidation effect. Notably, the burn-off rate of separately deoxidized manganese or silicon is 46% and 37%, respectively, whereas manganese silicon alloy achieves a significantly reduced burn-off rate of 29%. Produced by the simultaneous reduction of manganese ore (including manganese-rich slag), manganese oxide, and silicon dioxide in silica with carbon in a submerged arc furnace, this alloy exemplifies innovation and efficiency.
