Silicon Metal is an indispensable industrial product, crucial for steel-making, cast iron, and aluminum industries, including aviation, aircraft, and automobile parts production. It is also pivotal in the silicon optoelectronic device sector and many other industries, earning it the title of the 'salt' of modern industries. Produced by smelting quartz and coke in an electric heating furnace, silicon metal boasts a main silicon content of approximately 98%, with impurities such as iron, aluminum, and calcium.
Silicon Metal lumps are initially produced in electric heating furnaces using quartz and coke. Through a redox reaction, quartz transforms into molten silicon, which solidifies upon cooling into large silicon metal lumps. These primal lumps are then further processed
into smaller, standardized lumps, typically ranging in size from 10 to 100mm.
This silver-gray or dark gray metal, characterized by a metallic luster, possesses a high melting point, excellent heat resistance, high resistivity, and outstanding oxidation resistance.
