Silicon Metal is an indispensable powerhouse of an industrial product, pivotal to various domains like steel-making, cast iron, and aluminum manufacturing, notably in aviation, aircraft, and automobile components. Additionally, it plays a crucial role in the silicon optoelectronic device sector, earning its reputation as the 'salt' of modern industries. Derived from the smelting of quartz and coke in an electric heating furnace, this remarkable metal showcases a silicon content of approximately 98%, with residual impurities including iron, aluminum, and calcium.
Silicon Metal lumps are meticulously crafted in electric heating furnaces using quartz and coke. Through a redox reaction, quartz is transformed into molten silicon liquid. Upon cooling, this liquid solidifies into substantial primal silicon metal lumps. These large formations are subsequently processed
into more manageable lumps, known as standard size, ranging from 10 to 100mm in dimension.
This metal is characterized by a striking silver-gray or dark gray hue with a metallic sheen, boasting a high melting point, exceptional heat resistance, high resistivity, and outstanding oxidation resistance.
1) Silicon Metal finds extensive use in the refractory material and power metallurgy industries. It significantly enhances heat resistance, wear resistance, and oxidation resistance, ensuring robust performance in demanding environments.
2) In the realm of organic silicon chemistry, industrial silicon powder stands as a fundamental raw material. It lays the groundwork for the formation of high polymers of organic silicon, playing a pivotal role in this sophisticated process.
3) Through sublimation into monocrystalline silicon, industrial silicon powder becomes a cornerstone of the high-tech sector. It serves as an indispensable raw material for producing integrated circuits and electronic components, driving technological innovation.
4) In both metallurgy and foundry sectors, industrial silicon powder is highly valued as an additive for iron-based alloys. It serves as the alloying element in silicon steel compositions, significantly boosting the hardenability of steel.
5) Silicon metal is integral to the production of high-temperature materials, offering essential properties that withstand extreme conditions.
