Ferrosilicon is a vital ferro alloy composed of iron and silicon, crafted meticulously from coke, steel scraps, and quartz or silica, in the modern electric furnace. This alloy plays a crucial role as a deoxidizer in steelmaking, given its propensity to easily synthesize with oxygen to form silicon dioxide. The exothermic reaction from the SiO2 formation aids in heating molten steel, enhancing the deoxidation process. Additionally, ferrosilicon serves as a critical alloying element additive, finding extensive application in manufacturing low-alloy structural steel, spring steel, bearing steel, heat-resistant steel, and electrical silicon steel. In the chemical industry and ferroalloy production, ferrosilicon is also employed as a paramount reducing agent.
