Silicon manganese alloy, a versatile iron alloy, is comprised of manganese, silicon, iron, and trace amounts of carbon and other elements. It stands as a widely utilized and high-output ferroalloy, ranking second in consumption among electric furnace ferroalloy products. With exceptional oxygen affinity, both manganese and silicon in the alloy enhance steelmaking. The deoxidation products, MNSiO3 and Mn2SiO4, boast melting points of 1270 ºC and 1327 ºC, respectively, offering benefits like low melting point, substantial particles, ease of flotation, and superior deoxidation. Comparatively, the burning loss rates during separate deoxidization are 46% for manganese and 37% for silicon, while manganese silicon alloy achieves a reduced rate of 29%. This alloy is crafted by simultaneously reducing manganese ore (including manganese-rich slag), manganese oxide, and silicon dioxide in silica with carbon within a submerged arc furnace.
