The Silicon Manganese Alloy is a highly sought-after iron alloy composed of manganese, silicon, iron, along with a touch of carbon and other trace elements. Renowned for its extensive applications and significant market demand, it ranks second in the production of electric furnace ferroalloy products. This remarkable alloy demonstrates a powerful affinity to oxygen, thanks to the presence of manganese and silicon. In the steelmaking process, when silicon manganese alloy is utilized, it forms deoxidation products, namely mnsio3 and mn2sio4, that melt at temperatures of 1270 ºC and 1327 ºC, respectively. This alloy boasts advantageous characteristics like a low melting point, sizable particles, easy buoyancy, and exceptional deoxidation efficiency. Notably, the manganese or silicon burning loss rates when deoxidized separately are 46% and 37%, while the manganese silicon alloy achieves a significantly reduced rate of 29%. The creation of silicon manganese alloy involves the reduction of manganese ore (including manganese-rich slag), manganese oxide, and silicon dioxide with carbon in a submerged arc furnace, resulting in a superior and highly effective product.
